A 13-year-old girl was found to have elevated blood pressure for several months. Physical examination and renal ultrasonography were unremarkable. Plasma renin concentration was elevated. Captopril renography revealed decreased renal function of right kidney after administration of captopril, suggestive of high probability of renovascular hypertension. Renal angiography demonstrated right renal artery stenosis. After balloon angioplasty, blood pressure and plasma renin concentration returned to normal ranges soon. We suggest that captopril renography is helpful for the diagnosis and management of children with renovascular hypertension.

Comparison of aspirin renogram and captopril renogram in the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension
Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is the most common cause of secondary hypertension. Preliminary data indicate that aspirin renography with hippurate may be more sensitive for detection RAS. In this study 20 patients with known or suspected RAS underwent aspirin renography (20 mg/kg orally 1 hour before injection of radiotracer) and captopril renography (50 mg orally) with 99mTc-DTPA. Renal an...
متن کاملRenovascular hypertension: a noninvasive screening approach using captopril renography.
BACKGROUND Noninvasive cost-effective screening of hypertensive patients for renovascular hypertension is a desirable approach to a rare disorder. Currently many patients are screened with angiography, which is both invasive and expensive. METHODS A MEDLINE search from 1985 through July 1994 using the key words "renovascular hypertension," "noninvasive," "screening" generated 16 references. W...
متن کاملTc-99m-DTPA captopril renography in the detection of renovascular hypertension due to renal polar artery stenosis.
A 24-year-old man whose clinical features were suggestive of renovascular hypertension was referred for captopril renal scintigraphy. Captopril renal scintigraphy was positive for renovascular hypertension only when the left kidney was analyzed in 2 separate regions. Angiography confirmed severe stenosis (90%) in the upper branch of the left renal artery.
متن کاملParenchymal mean transit time analysis of 99mTc-DTPA captopril renography.
UNLABELLED Proposed renal hemodynamic mechanisms of captopril suggest that quantitation of renographic retention parameters should help identify patients suspected of having renovascular disease. The parenchymal mean transit time (MTT) is theoretically superior to other measures of retention, but data supporting its superiority are few. METHODS Two groups of subjects were studied with diethyl...
متن کاملProspective analysis of strategies for diagnosing renovascular hypertension.
Renovascular hypertension is a potentially curable form of high blood pressure. However, it is unclear how best to select patients who are likely to have renovascular hypertension, what diagnostic strategy to use in these selected patients, and how to predict the hemodynamic significance of a renal artery stenosis. We determined the prevalence of renovascular hypertension in adults who exhibite...
